Superbug Screening Gets Green Light
Superbug Screening Gets Green Light
All patients entering NHS hospitals in England will be screened for MRSA and Clostridium difficile in plans announced by prime minister Gordon Brown.
The plans will see all patients attending hospital for routine operations being screened by 2008/09 with screening for emergency patients introduced over the next three years.
This is part of the government's plans for tackling superbugs, which also includes a £50 million programme of deep cleaning hospitals that is currently underway, and stricter penalties for hospitals where cleaning is not done properly.
